Beach Hero Marine Discovery Program – Now Open for Spring 2025!

Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society is thrilled to announce the relaunch of our Beach Hero Marine Discovery educational program! Designed for elementary and high school students in the Surrey (36), Delta (37), and Langley (35) School Districts, this engaging initiative fosters a deeper connection to marine ecosystems and conservation efforts.
Program Highlights:
In-classroom introduction to marine ecosystems and conservation concepts
Access to an extensive two-week resource kit, including books, field guides, marine artifacts, and a teacher resource binder
Hands-on field trip experiences at Crescent Beach (Surrey) or White Rock Beach (White Rock), led by knowledgeable volunteer naturalists
Program Availability:
Open now through June 2025
Best suited for low tide days – check our calendar for optimal dates
Booking required – teachers can request their preferred field trip date online
How to Get Involved: For inquiries and booking, contact Janey He at education@birdsonthebay.ca. As a volunteer-based non-profit, we appreciate public and community donations to support these programs. A suggested donation of $3-5 per child is recommended, but programs are available free of charge for those facing financial hardships.

European Green Crab Trapping Methods Training

Dates: April 15-16, 2025
Location: Blackie Spit, White Rock
Help combat the spread of the invasive European green crab by joining our hands-on trapping methods training session. Volunteers will learn essential skills for monitoring and removal, gaining valuable field experience while contributing to the health of local marine habitats.
